If you’ve been following me here long enough, you will already know how obsessed I am with the neo-fairy tale RIDDLE OF FIRE, my favorite film of 2024. A big part of this obsession lies equally with its soundtrack, a collection of obscure Bandcamp dungeon-synth melodies and other bizarre throw-backs to faux-’70s/’80s pop weirdness. It’s one of the things I listen to the most at work for background calm & inspiration.
Now, there is an official soundtrack release, only available on vinyl and sadly can’t be purchased digitally — but it can be streamed on YouTube (ad-free) in its entirety. The tracks on this official Enjoy the Ride Records release are primarily the instrumental dungeon-synth tracks that encompass the movie’s score. Here there be atmospheric pieces by the likes of Borg, Fogweaver, Rune Realms, Lord Lovidicus, and others with titles like Entrance to the Nekkethian Dwarves, Lost Sanctuary of the Wizard, Oberon and the Mermaid, Fleeing the Castle by Candlelight, Led to a Familiar Land by a Ghost, and others. The titles alone are brilliant.
BUT — there are also other tracks in the film, ranging from cheesy kitsch (from the supermarket scene) to songs by pop artist Riki (from the nightclub scenes) to the ‘70s bopper Baby Come Back (the dance scene) to the theme from Cannibal Holocaust (used to score the baking of a pie).
There are a few cobbled-together playlists on the inter-webs which feature these extra songs, but I have taken the liberty to create the only one which is COMPLETE and includes everything, based on the end credits to the actual film.
YouTube won’t let me embed into Substack, so I’ve hidden the link.
If ye be a knight or ye be a squire, click on the magic mushroom of fire!
I hope you enjoy this music as much as I do — it’s perfect for work jams, chill jams, or accompaniment to mushroom collecting, troll hunting, and paintball.
And if you haven’t already…WATCH THE MOVIE.
I’m absolutely obsessed with this movie and soundtrack!! It’s my go to music when I go somewhere and I want to feel like I’m in an adventure 🍄
