The Lion, The Witch and the Wonder
A fabulous must-listen series of essays on children's books.
I’ve recently become aware of the work of Oxford Fellow and children’s book writer Katherine Rundell, who is emerging as a leading voice in the world of literature. I have yet to read, as of today, her popular novel IMPOSSIBLE CREATURES, but it’s on my list of books to devour in the near future. Currently I’m making my way through her new book VANISHING TREASURES: A Bestiary of Extraordinary Endangered Creatures, a collection of non-fiction essays about various birds and beasts who are in danger of extinction. I’m gob-smacked with wonder at the mind of this writer and feel I’m in the presence of a new kindred spirit and philosophical guide for the kind of work I want to do myself.
Among these discoveries I’m gradually working through is this brilliant 5-part essay series about children’s books from the BBC which I whole-heartedly recommend you listen to.
Wow! Thanks for sharing another wonder with us!
