Two more albums from Norway are currently making my ears happy. I’ve already gushed over Einar Solberg’s debut solo album 16 in my last post, and now I’m here to tell you about a 2020 debut album by KALANDRA and 2023 debut album by AVKRVST (say like “Auk-Rust” with the letter V as U).
The Line was released in 2020 by Nordic-folk rock band KALANDRA, who I also mentioned before in this post because of their music for Kingdom Two Crowns. Their sound is similar to Nordic-pop princess AURORA at times, but mixes things up with a decidedly heavier edge combined with soaring ethereal melodies.
Here’s a taste of their beauty and fury.
Even heavier is AVKRVST, Norwegian prog rockers who are brand new on the scene.
Their sound has a strong PORCUPINE TREE vibe, and debut album The Approbation is a powerful, moody, and sonically soaring concept record where the songs blend together into an experience altogether vicious and moving.
Their debut single and music video is here for you to be riveted and frightened by.
Why is all the best music from Europe? There’s something in the water there, I tell ya.
