"Klaus" is so good. The animation is gorgeous and I love the characters. Jason Schwartzman is really good in this -- it's really easy to see how this role could have been a David Spade/Ryan Reynolds type, but I think Schwartzman nails the heart of it.

The year of its release, I talked it up a lot in our end-of-the-year critics' awards, particularly for our animated selection. And while that was because I genuinely thought it was the best animated film of that year, I'll admit part of it was that I was afraid this film would get lost in the jumble of Netflix content.

But I've been really happy to see so many of my friends and family embrace this one. I think its found an audience that loves it, and I think it's going to be one of those films that, 10 years down the road, is just accepted as a Christmas classic.

Thinking of this movie makes me smile. I only saw it when it first came out. I plan on watching this week. I loved the scene/scenes of how the legendary traits of Santa Claus came about. I also loved the ending how the friendship continued on between Klaus and Jesper.

Another by hand animated movie that impressed me was "Loving Vincent". You probably already know this, but it was animated with oil paintings. I need to watch it again to remember my impression of the story, but the animation I can't forget.

Just one more thing. If you enjoy different takes on holiday stories "The Legend of Holly Claus" by Brittney Ryan and illustrated by Laurel Long is wonderful. It's a big novell, 522 pages, but worth the time it takes to read it. Happy Holidays!
